Today sees the beginning of the end for the traditional 60 watt incandescent light bulb, the most widely used in most countries, as an EU-wide ban on the manufacture and import of these bulbs comes into effect.
The 100 watt bulb was banned in 2009, the 75 watt in 2010 and the rest of the lower wattage bulbs will be banned as from next September 1st as the European Commission forces people to change to the lower powered fluorescent lamps.
The 60 watt bulbs will still be available but once existing stocks are exhausted, that’s it.
