The Council has approved the specifications for the pedestrianisation of calle El Barrio, the first phase covering the area from Plaza Cavana to cafe El Barrio.
The cost of the first phase is €275,984 and this part of the project is expected to start after the feria in October.
Phase two, covering the area from cafe El Barrio to calle Antonio Millón is expected to start in October 2012. The total cost of the project has been set at €600,000.
The businesses in the street, of which there are many, will presumably suffer a fair amount of inconvenience as usual.
Tony Slade says:
Friendly warning and advice to those who live or trade in Calle El Barrio: expect a feverish start, filling you with optimism. This will turn to despair as they unaccountably stop work and get months behind schedule. But the finished product (at least a year late) will be of very high quality.
This is based on the bitter and practical experience of when Calle Carabeo was done.
