Don’t get stitched up

During the past few days, several elderly residents of Maro have reported a possible scam relating to, of all things, sewing machines.

A man has been reportedly visiting the homes of elderly people bearing gifts such as thread and pieces of cloth. A little while later, he asks if the householder owns a sewing machine and, if the answer is yes, expresses an interest in seeing it.

After examining the sewing machine for a few minutes, the man then says that it is broken and in need of repair and that he will fix, in exchange for cash of course. The sewing machines tend to have been working perfectly before the man ‘examines’ them.

This is another case of ‘Do Not Let Them In’. Door to door repairs, gas inspectors, supposed water meter ‘officials’ – the scams are seemingly endless.
