Vélez-Málaga Council has asked the regional government to undertake the building of a new school in Torre del Mar and, at the same time, requesting a number of other renovation and improvement works to be carried out on schools in the area.
The Mayor, Francisco Delgado Bonilla, and the Councillor for Educación, Aurora Díaz, made the requests to the provincial delegate for the Ministry of Education in Málaga, Antonio Escámez.
The Mayor has requested that the school be built in the Carril de Sevilla area of Torre del Mar, but the Junta de Andalucia has apparently stated that it would first require that power cables in the area be transferred underground.
Other requests include the construction, before September 2012, of a pavilion at the infant school in avenida de Las Naciones and the carrying out of work on the IES Reyes Católicos, a €2.5 million project approved two years ago but never started.
