Police in Madrid have arrested Ion Clamparu, a Rumanian national considered to be one of the biggest trafficking crime lords and head of a network involved in trafficking Rumanian women for the purpose of prostitution.
Clamparu, also known as ‘cabeza de cerdo’, is on Interpol’s ‘most wanted’ list and has been charged with operating a trafficking network which, between 2000 and 2004, saw around 100 Rumanian women forced into prostitution in Spain.
Interpol believe that Clamparu may also be involved in trafficking Rumanian women into several other countries in Europe such as Italy, France and the UK.
