The recent fire at Cuesta del Cielo destroyed about 20 hectares of pine trees and scrub land, but it could have been far worse.
The prevailing weather conditions, notably little or no wind, prevented the rapid spread of the blaze and allowed for its extinction in a relatively short period of time.
The fire began at 23:55 on September 28th, was controlled by 09:30 the next morning and extinguished by 17:30. The mild weather conditions helped prevent the spread of the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation but preliminary indications are that it could have been caused by a lightning strike.
