Steve Jobs, co-founder and former chief executive of US technology giant Apple, has died at the age of 56.
Jobs was generally regarded as a charismatic and visionary whose innovative ideas turned Apple into the most valuable technology company in the world and second most valuable overall after Exxon Mobil. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2003 and five years later underwent a liver transplant. After three periods of illness, Jobs announced his resignation as Apple CEO in August 2011.
