Rincón de la Victoria Council is set to reduce the amount of public lighting in certain areas in a cost-cutting measure to save on energy bills.
Lighting in schools will be turned off at midnight (why on earth is it on at that time anyway?) and the lamps and lights on the beach and promenade will be turned off, alternately, at 02:00, the time when catering establishments are legally obliged to close.
The cash-strapped Council is also implementing other money saving measures on the basis that ‘every little helps’.
As long as they don’t set up an expensive department to monitor savings then it seems a sensible move and one that should maybe have been implemented years ago.
