Eviction processes through the courts in Spain reached a new record high in the second quarter of 2011, up 21.2% on the same period last year to 16,404.
These processes are usually either in the case of banks foreclosing on properties due to non-payment of mortgages or non-payment of rent by tenants.
In the first quarter there were 15,546 eviction applications, 36.8% more than during the first quarter of 2010. In the first half of 2011 there have been almost as many evictions as in the whole of 2009.
