An earthquake registering 4.3 on the Richter scale occurred on Saturday night on El Hierro and was felt throughout the island, especially in La Restinga.
There have been over 9,600 tremors and quakes on El Hierro since July 2011 and this one was the largest to date. It occurred at a depth of between 10 and 15 kilometres and caused many people to take to the streets.
Landslides caused by the quake cut several roads for a short time but these have now been cleared.
