A pleasure boat with 27 people on board caught fire and sank on Saturday in the waters south of Gran Canaria.
The boat, the ‘Liberty’, based in Puerto Rico in the municipality of Mogán, was taking tourists on a trip to see the dolphins when one of the engines caught fire. The 25 passengers and 2 crew were rescued by another boat from the same company.
At just after 13:00 the ‘Liberty’ sank beneath the surface. Seven of the passengers needed treatment for smoke inhalation.
