Ten days after the disappearance of two young children in Córdoba, the father of the children, José Bretón, has been detained on suspicion of possible homicide.
Ruth, aged 6 years, and José, aged 2 years, apparently disappeared while playing in a park in Córdoba, the father claiming to have lost sight of them for a moment and then discovering that they had vanished. However, police have noted a number of contradictions in statements given by the father and also question why the father raised the alarm from a house in the suburbs rather than from the park, a fact corroborated by GPS details from the phone.
Extensive searches have been carried out in the park area, near the rio Guadalquivir and at the farm where the detainee had been staying since separating from his wife a month ago, but so far no clues as to the whereabouts of the two young children.
The arrest was also made for procedural purposes to allow José Bretón, who has so far been questioned on several occasions both as a witness and suspect, to have access to legal counsel.
