Prison for man suspected of two murders in Almonaster

A judge has decreed prison without bail for Genaro Ramallo, a man who fled to France after two bodies were found buried on a plot of land he owned in Almonaster la Real, Huelva. The bodies had been buried for 18 years.

In September, two bodies were found buried under about two metres of rocks and stones on a farm in Almonaster la Real. The bodies were later identified as María del Carmen Espejo and her 18 year old son Antonio.

The owner of the farm, Genaro Ramallo, fled to France when the bodies were discovered but was detained in Toulouse in late September. He appeared in court on Friday morning but refused to make a declaration except to state for the record that when arrested in Toulouse he had surrendered ‘voluntarily’.

The judge at the Court of Instruction Number 3 in Huelva ordered Ramallo to be detained in custody without bail on suspicion of two counts of murder.
