The first storms of autumn, although fairly mild, have already destroyed the main beach in Torrox Costa, Ferrara Playa, with little or no sand remaining.
This has been a regular occurrence for the past two decades and is unlikely to be resolved until underwater breakwaters are installed, something the Council, local businesses and residents have been demanding for years.
However, instead of a permanent solution, the authorities have persisted in wasting hundreds of thousands of euros transporting sand to the beach after each storm, often to see it swept away within a few days.
The erosion of beaches during storms is a problem for numerous municipalities along the Costa del Sol but one which has yet to be properly addressed.
