The island of El Hierro has suffered around 11,000 quakes and tremors since July, the strongest, measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale, occurring at 20:30 on Friday night.
The quake once again forced the closure of the Los Roquillos tunnel and eleven homes in Las Puntas had to be evacuated. The epicentre was north of Frontera at a depth of 22 kilometres.
There have also been 13 earthquakes during the early hours of Saturday morning, the strongest measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale. The epicentre was north of Frontera at a depth of 11 kilometres.
Of the thirteen tremors this morning, twelve had their epicentre north of Frontera and one had its epicentre near El Pinar in the south of the island.
