The former mayor of La Viñuela, Juan Millán, has presented himself at the prison in Alhaurín de la Torre to serve a sentence for urban planning violations.
During his trial, Millán admitted to a dozen related cases with a penalty of nine months in prison and 10 years disqualification on each count. However, under Article 76 of the Penal Code, the maximum sentence is three times the sentence for the most serious offence and the initial sentence was therefore 27 months in prison and 30 years disqualification from public office.
One of the more recent cases for which he was convicted was for the illegal building of five houses, for which the former mayor admitted guilt, and a deal was struck so that he will now only have to serve a total of nine months in prison and be disqualified from public office for ten years.
