Vélez-Málaga Council reviews parking projects

The mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Antonio Marín, has said that the municipal housing company Emvipsa will not now act as the promoter of a new underground parking facility in El Pozancón.

The idea now is for the facility, destined to become the second underground car park in Vélez-Málaga, to be carried out by a private company under an administrative concession. The project is set to cost €5 million and provide 319 parking places.

The change of plan occurred after the PP took control of the Council in May and saw that Emvipsa was already €13 million in debt and in no position to take on such a project.

In April, the previous administration had already begun to offer for sale the parking places for residents in the proposed new car park at €14,900 each with a deposit of €500. Thirteen people had apparently signed up when the new Council halted the project.

Also currently halted are three more future parking projects in Arroyo de la Molineta, calle Cristo and Laureano Casquero, some with garages and linked to VPO projects, in which places have already been put up for sale.
