Albuñol. a municipality on the Granada coast and comprising six towns and twelve villages has a Local Police force which is unable to use its vehicles because the municipality has no money for petrol.
The officers either have to patrol on foot or go by bus if the distance to be travelled is great and this situation has been going on for two months now. The Council, short of money, decided petrol for the vehicles was an unnecessary expense.
The main problem with the situation is that the response time to an emergency situation could be somewhat lengthier, especially if the incident relates to an outlying area or village.
On the positive side, the officers should be getting fit.
In addition, Council workers have also not been paid since September.
