A woman in Cataluña who suffered an aneurism spent 65 hours going from hospital hospital trying to get an operation. She was eventually operated upon but by then it was too late and she died six days later.
The family of the deceased woman are now suing the Vall d’Hebron hospital for a violation of the right to health care.
The woman awoke on September 7th with a severe headache and suffered an aneurism, cerebral bleeding, and required an urgent operation. At the hospital in Blanes she was referred to the Hospital Josep Trueta in Girona.
However, due to health cuts, Hospital Josep Trueta were unable to operate and she was taken by ambulance to the Hospital Vall d’Hebron. The hospital had operating theatres but they were closed due to financial cutbacks.
The woman finally received the operation in the Hospital Clinic but by this time it was too late and she died six days later.
In recent months the government of Cataluña has closed 40 primary care centres and dozens of operating theatres and as a result, waiting lists have increased by around 23%.
