According to APCUN, the Association of Presidents of Communities and Urbanisations in Nerja, there are at least 50 private estates and residential areas in Nerja where, over the years, the road infrastructure has deteriorated.
In 2006, APCUN signed a framework agreement with the Council whereby repairs to such private areas would be funded 50% by the residents of those areas and 50% by the Council. Once the renovations were complete, the Council would maintain and conserve the areas.
APCUN represents about half of the estates and urbanisations, but the others could also benefit from this framework agreement according to APCUN president Alfons Mettel.
However, the economic crisis has meant that, so far, only three applications have been made to the Council, these including La Noria and Chimeneas. Under the agreement, any repair works do not start until the residents have come up with their fifty percent of the costs.
