The airport authority AENA has stressed that Sevilla airport will be able to operate normally during a series of partial strikes which began this morning, Thursday, and are expected to continue on Novmber 17th, 18th, 25th and December 2nd, 3rd and 4th.
AENA say that minimum staffing levels agreed with the Ministry of Development w allow the airport to function normally. On November 17 and 18, the stoppages will be between 06:00 and 09:00, on November 25th between 18:00 and 22:00 and on December 2, 3 and 4 between 06:00 and 09:00 and 18:00 to 22:00.
Passengers concerned about the status of their flight should either contact their airline or call AENA on 902 404 704.
The strike follows a breakdown in talks relating to staffing levels at the airport. The Unions apparently want AENA to cover all staff absences, regardless of their duration and whether, due to the level of activity at the airport, it is necessary.
AENA has stated that it guarantees to cover all absences of over 15 days by hiring new staff on contract and in other cases, proposes coverage in situations where it is actually needed through the mechanisms provided for in the collective agreement and including, if necessary, overtime.
The Unions have rejected this offer. AENA accuses the Unions of blocking the hiring of new staff to promote the implementation of totally unnecessary overtime.
