Came upon a variation on a theme when it comes to scams. We all (hopefully) know about the bogus gas inspectors, bogus water company officials and those who say they are replacing your fire extinguisher and take your full one, leaving you with an empty, useless object, but yesterday was a new variation.
A so-called representative arrived at a shop with a bill for the annual fire extinguisher maintenance. Most shops have such contracts, of course, so one would expect to get a bill. But not a bill from 2010 and in the name of a company which has no connection to the one actually used.
Fortunately the assistant spotted the scam and the ‘rep’ made a hasty departure. However, it would be very easy for someone in a shop, bar or other business to get caught out, especially at a busy time.
