The matador Juan José Padilla, severely gored in the face in Zaragoza last month, has undergone eleven hours of surgery relating to facial paralysis.
The operation, carried out by a group of surgeons at the Virgen del Rocio hospital in Sevilla, involved a number of nerve grafts. It will probably be several weeks before it is known whether the grafts have been successful in bringing mobility to the left side of his face.
If successful, there will then be several months of rehabilitation to fully restore mobility.
