The fishery in the Gulf of Cádiz has sufficient quantities of fresh seafood to cover the Christmas period according to the fishermen operating in the area.
White shrimps from Huelva and prawns are generally most in demand during the holiday period. There is no excess product but enough to meet demand.
Prices are lower than in previous years, a kilo of shrimp currently selling at between €15 and €25 per kilo (same price as 10 years ago, apparently) and prawns at €13 per kilo (almost half the price of last year).
The fisherman are not optimistic that prices will rise in the coming days as there is a lot of frozen fish around and there are cheap, allegedly lower quality, imports from Morocco and South America on the market.
