Shops in Málaga, particularly those involved in textiles, are hoping to attract customers with special offers for the Christmas period after suffering an estimated 20 to 30 per cent drop in sales in recent months due to the exceptionally good weather.
An extended period of very good weather has meant few people have so far been buying coats or jumpers and the shops will now be trying to get rid of their accumulated stocks of such items.
Add in a financial crisis, increasing unemployment, projected lower spending per capita on Christmas gifts and less impulse buying and it is easy to understand why many businesses are suffering.
Either that or shops are just not catering for the things that people really want at the moment, trying to tempt the public to buy non-essential, non-useful, luxury or ‘fad’ items. There’s a thought.
