One Catalan police officer died and another was injured while they were chasing a suspected thief in Montblanc, Tarragona.
The deceased officer, aged 50 years, was stationed in Montblanc.
The incident began police were pursuing a thief who ignored a checkpoint in Les Borges Blanques, Lleida, and was heading to Tarragona. This information was relayed to the police in Tarragona and two officers were assigned to try and trace the vehicle and its driver.
The officers located the vehicle abandoned near a bridge in Montblanc and saw the thief head into the Frape factory on the N-240. During the subsequent chase through the actory, the police officers fell through a false ceiling. One of the officers was killed, the other was injured.
The thief was later apprehended.
