Rubbish mounting in Armilla as strike continues

Rubbish is beginning to mount up in the streets of Armilla, Granada province, after five consecutive days of strikes by the municipal cleaning company Armigesa.

The Council owns 51% of Armigesa but is heavily in debt and has been failing to pay the salaries of the employees. The Council made a payment of €68,000 on Wednesday, two days after the strike began, to cover one of the outstanding months. However, there are still three months outstanding.

The Unions thanked the Council for the payment but said this does not resolve the issue as the problem still exists. The Unions are looking for a more stable and regular payment schedule. How about monthly and on time? Not much to ask.

A meeting of employees is expected to take place shortly to determine the next stage of their industrial action, currently defined as ‘indefinite’.
