For the second time recently, it has been discovered that a prisoner serving a long sentence for killing his wife has been collecting a widower’s pension and since March has been collecting the legal maximum of €2,400 per month.
Nemesio Antonio Pisonero was sentenced to 26 years in prison in 1998 for killing his wife and son and since that date has been collecting the pension.
This follows the case of Llorenç Morell, condemned to 18 years in prison in 2005 for the murder of his wife, who was also found to be collecting a widower’s pension.
The Law against Gender Violence expressly forbids convicted murderers from inheriting the pension of his or her partner, wife or husband and the Department of Social Security has stopped both payments with immediate effect.
