The Council is proposing to request the Ministry of Environment, once the new national government is set up and functioning, to expedite proceedings relating to the construction of a promenade at El Playazo beach, this to include acquiring lands not yet voluntarily surrendered by their owners.
The Nerja PGOU includes plans for a promenade on El Playazo beach and rather than the appropriation of the plots of land in the affected area, the Council proposed a voluntary system whereby land owners were given suitable plots of buildable land within the municipality.
While most of the owners have accepted this offer, some have not, and the Council wants the ministry to acquire these lands and initiate proceedings to draft the project to construct the promenade.
According to Council spokesman José Miguel Garcia, the Ministry of Environment has so far done nothing towards starting this project which the Council feels is important for the development of local tourism.
