The National Police have arrested four Rumanian nationals who made express trips to Spain to rob a chain of supermarkets, returning to their homeland with their loot after each robbery in order to avoid detection.
The authorities became aware of the gang in September but locating the individuals was hampered by their short trips to Spain, usually ten days, and the fact they did not own vehicles or have family in the country.
Eventually, though, catch them they did with help from the Rumanian Embassy. The gang have so far been linked to eight robberies from supermarkets in Madrid and Toledo. The gang disabled phones, alarms and security cameras before removing the contents of safes.
After each robbery they made their way back to Rumania or Italy with their ill-gotten gains.
