One man died and a 10 year old child is missing after a pleasure boat capsized near the entrance to the marina in Gijón. Three other people, including two minors, were rescued.
The 5.8 metre pleasure boat ‘Patri 13’ overturned on Thursday afternoon near the entrance to the marina in Gijón. After receiving a distress call, the Gijón Marine Rescue launched the rescue speedboat ‘Salvamar Rigel’ and the rescue helicopter ‘Helimer 204’ and managed to rescue an 11 year old boy who was suffering from hypothermia.
A lifeboat was sent to the scene and located a second boy, aged 13 years. Firemen later rescued a 43 year old man who was also suffering from hypothermia and required oxygen until the medical services arrived on the scene.
It is known that the missing boy was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.
