According to the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism, the number of international vistors to Spain during 2011 was up by 8.1% with spending also up by 8.1%.
Tourist arrivals were 56.91 million during 2011 and they spent €52,290 million and this apparently makes it the fourth best year of all time. Tourism accounted for 10.2% of GDP.
Of the 56.9 million foreign tourists, the biggest increases were registered for visitors from the UK (+9.1%), followed by Italy (+8.5%), Scandinavia ( +8.4%), France (+4.6%) and Germany (+3%).
