Comares celebrates the Fiesta de San Hilario de Poitiers on Saturday, January 14th, a celebration which has changed very little over time and attracts over 4,000 visitors to the town.
The celebration dates back to 1442 when the locals took up arms against the Muslim community in Comares, the date coinciding with the 1,076th anniversary of the death of St. Hilary of Poitiers.
The celebration begins with a solemn Mass at 11:00 in the Iglesia de la Encarnación and then at 12:30 there is a procession through the streets.
From around 14:00 it is party time in the plaza Balcón de la Axarquía with wine and all sorts of local dishes on offer as well as a variety of musical entertainment.
