A return to bimonthly electricity bills could be on the horizon after the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism sent a draft decree to the National Energy Commission (CNE).
The bimonthly ended in September 2008 and electricity was subsequently billed monthly. However, actual readings continued to be done only every two months, the other amount being an estimate.
The Ministry is hoping to return to the bimonthly system, citing the number of complaints about the complexity of the current system and a desire to see customers being able to easily see their actual consumption.
However, it may still be possible for customers to request monthly billing if they so desire.
The draft decree also includes the possibility for customers to take readings themselves and deliver them to the electricity company if the meter reader cannot access the premises for some reason. This system currently exists in the case of water and gas.
