The singer José María Pérez Blanco “Perejil” died on Friday at the Hospital Virgen del Rocío in Sevilla after a long illness.
José María Pérez Blanco was born in Manzanilla, Huelva, in 1945, and was proprietor of the Quitapesares tavern in Sevilla.
In 2009 he was awarded the Gold Medal of the City and was due to be named Hijo Predilecto (Favourite Son) of Manzanilla on February 28th, recognition for his contribution to the town.
The singer had finalised a new disc to help restore the local church and was a regular contributor to local festivals.
