José Bretón, father of the two children who went missing in Cordoba four months ago, is back on ‘suicide watch’ at Alcolea prison following a self-harming incident in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
José Bretón, who was already being monitored until a few days ago, will now be monitored by a trusted prisoner under the anti-suicide protocol.
The father of the two missing children cut himself on the forearm and shoulder with a razor blade in the early hours of Tuesday morning and was treated in the infirmary for minor wounds. A subsequent psychiatric examination questioned the mental health of the patient.
According to Bretón’s lawyer, the incident was not a suicide attempt but a call for attention. The lawyer said his client found the injustice of the situation intolerable and was driven to take drastic action.
