A fire which broke out at 23:20 on Saturday evening in Pujerra (Málaga) is still burning and has so far destroyed 100 hectares of pine, oak and scrub land.
Low temperatures in the area, minus four degrees last night, strong winds and the general lack of rain during the autumn and winter have helped spread the flames. Around 200 firefighters, members of the Emergency Military Unit (UME), helicopters and aircraft are helping to bring the blaze under control.
There are no reports of any injuries and it has so far not been necessary for anyone to be evacuated from their homes.
The fire began in the El Helechar area of Pujerra and has now reached the outskirts of the municipality of Júzcar. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
