The Mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, has once again been in Madrid to try and instigate some sort of action relating to the proposed sewage plant for Nerja.
The Mayor met with the Director General for Water, Juan Urbano, who confirmed that nothing at all had been done in the past year by the previous government regarding putting the project out to tender, despite the frequent announcements to the contrary.
Juan Urbano gave a ‘commitment’ to resolve the issues stopping the project from being put out to tender. However, he added that although there is a binding EU directive to achieve a zero level of discharge into the sea by 2015, the breach of which would lead to problems for Spain, there is currently the more important question of an economy in crisis and a lack of funds.
The mayor responded by saying that he will continue to press both the regional and central government on the matter.
