It has taken since April 2011 but police in Vélez-Málaga have finally been able to identify and detain an individual alleged to be responsible for at least six sexual assaults in the municipality.
The first assault was in April 2011 when a woman walking home was grabbed by the neck and thrown to the ground. Her assailant then tried to kiss her but she managed to struggle free and escape.
In the following months police received a number of reports of similar attacks, always late at night and near the homes of the victims.
Finally, after an attack last week, someone recognised one of the details given about the attacker and police were able to apprehend the alleged assailant, a 24 year old Spanish national.
