American singer and actress Whitney Houston, one of the most celebrated female singers of all time, has died in Los Angeles at the age of 48 years. She was found in her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Ms Houston died on the eve of the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles and had been due to attend a pre-awards party in the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
In recent years, her career was overshadowed by substance abuse which damaged what was once described as the finest voice in pop music. She also suffered during a turbulent marriage to singer Bobby Brown with allegations of abuse.
Whitney Houston sold around 170 million records worldwide, had 11 US number one hits, won six Grammy Awards and her record ‘I Will Always Love You’, written by Dolly Parton, is the best selling single of all time by a female artist.
