An exhumation will take place at the San Gabriel cemetery in Málaga at 11:30 on Friday as part of an investigation into babies allegedly stolen during and after the Franco regime.
Francisca Sanchez gave birth at the Carlos Haya hospital in Málaga in March 1973 but within hours of the birth was told that her baby had died from brain damage. Her husband, Carlos, was handed a sealed box which allegedly contained the remains of their child.
The family had always suspected that something was not quite right, even more so when the mass thefts of babies came to light and they filed an official complaint in October 2011. There is apparently no record of Francisca Sanchez having entered the Carlos Haya hospital and no record of the death of her baby.
Francisca and Carlos Sanchez went on to have four more children but steadfastly refused to go to the Carlos Haya hospital.
