A team of Spanish archaeologists working in Luxor, Egypt, has discovered the name of a hitherto unknown XVII dynasty (1680-1580 BC) Pharaoh according to the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities.
The name of the new Pharaoh is Sen Negt N Ra and the discovery was made during excavations at the Temple of Karnak in Luxor.
According to the inscriptions on the door, the Pharaoh dedicated several buildings at Karnak to the god Amon-Ra, the chief deity of Thebes, which stood on what is now Luxor. This discovery adds a new seventeenth dynasty pharaoh involved in the struggle to free Egypt from from occupation by the Hyksos, a Semitic warrior people who dominated the Nile area for 150 years from 1730 BC.
