A total of 124 small and medium-sized businesses in Nerja will now have a chance of being paid by the Council following the Royal Decree set in motion by the Central Government relating to the plan for the settlement of municipal debts.
The 124 companies are owed in the region of €1,200,000 and they could be paid in May or June. The municipalities have finished sending lists of municipal debts to the Ministry of Finance and once a suitable plan is agreed and approved by the Ministry, suppliers can be paid.
The total number of companies owed money by Nerja Council is 320 with a total outstanding amount of €4,800,000.
The Council, although concerned about the debt, points out that it is a lot lower than in many other municipalities.
You wouldn’t want to have a business dependent upon any municipal authority for its principal source of income.
