Vélez-Málaga Council has decided to dispense with the services of its own municipal housing company Emvipsa, which is €17 million in debt, and negotiate a deal with the Málaga provincial company Emprovima for the construction of VPO (subsidised) housing in Vélez and Torre del Mar.
The Council wants to build the 80 VPO houses in calle Laureano Casquero in Vélez and another 29 in the Cerro del Águila area of Torre del Mar.
Both these projects would be open not only to local residents but also to people in other parts of the Axarquia district, a novelty for this type of development.
Does this mean that the local demand is low or not present but there is a determination to build ‘something’ to generate licence fee revenue?
The Council is hoping that development can begin before the end of the year.
