A total of nearly 17,000 vehicles were checked in Málaga province during the recent DGT crackdown on the use of mobile phones while driving, the campaign being carried out between March 5th and March 18th.
Of the 17,000, 664 drivers were reported for using phones or other electronic devices while in motion, representing 3.9% of the total.
The previous campaign was carried out in April 2011 and on that occasion 8,000 vehicles were checked and 240 drivers were denounced.
In Granada, 36,660 vehicles were checked, a number far higher than in Málaga, but only 300 drivers were denounced. In Jaén province, 27,000 vehicles were checked and 121 drivers were denounced.
