According to the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Junta de Andalucia, Clara Aguilera, damage due to the drought is estimated at €650 million and damage due to frost is estimated at €180 million.
Clara Aguilera was in Madrid for the Agriculture Sector Conference chaired by the central Government minister Miguel Arias Cañete.
She said that the drought has had a serious effect on agriculture and that as many as 20,000 casual jobs had been lost as a result. In addition, the frosts in February badly damaged the horticultural sector, affecting 46,150 hectares of vegetables, citrus fruits, cranberries and almonds.
