The Mijas Pueblo donkey taxi staff now have a uniform to make them more easily recognisable and to improve the image of the town, so no more baseball caps, t-shirts and flip-flops.
The thirty staff engaged in the donkey taxi service will now wear a standard uniform of brown waistcoat and typical Andalucian hat. One assumes that trousers will also be required.
In addition, operators are ‘advised’ not to smoke while engaged in tours and under new municipal ordinances, the animals must pass veterinary checks.
For the horse-drawn carriages, the carriages must comply with safety requirements, be registered and have a licence plate and comply with signalling requirements.
The Council has for months been working on extending the donkey taxi service to other parts of Mijas Pueblo but this will not happen before the end of the year as several areas contemplated under this project, such as Plaza de la Libertad, will need to be resurfaced as the current surface does not lend itself to easy cleaning.
This extension to the donkey taxi service will be financed under the Plan Qualifica of the Junta de Andalucia.
