Vélez-Málaga Council is planning to invest over €2.4 million to construct a botanical garden around the XVII century Los Remedios convent, funding coming from the Fund for the Modernisation of Tourist Infrastructure (FOMIT) and the Urban Initiative fund.
The cash-strapped municipality hopes that the project will cover around 26,000 square metres with over half being parks. There are to be 25,000 plants of different species, a one kilometre walkway and twelve viewpoints.
