There were apparently the odd pickets spotted at hotels but on the whole one wouldn’t have known there was a general strike today without being told. banks were open, shops open, rubbish was collected last night, Council offices were open and work was going on, such as at Plaza Fabrica de los Cangrejos and calle El Barrio.
Probably somewhat different in larger towns and cities, but in the smaller municipalities no-one seems to bother that much. What’s the point? A whole day of national production lost in a time of recession and financial crisis -that makes sense – and there are probably local businesses who just cannot afford to close if they wish to survive.
And what difference is it likely to make? None. The Government is hardly likely to change its policies – which were voted for by the majority – before they’ve really come into force and had time to work..or not.
