The Easter processions will go ahead after all in La Linea de La Concepción after around 300 protesters, mostly from the brotherhoods, took to the streets to express their disapproval at a decision to cancel the traditional parades.
The parades were cancelled by the brotherhoods amid security fears as 52 of the 111 strong Local Police force have recently called in ‘sick’. The officers are owed eight months salaries by the Council.
The National Police have been helping in La Linea by taking calls and volunteers will help with traffic regulation during the parades.
As a condition for resuming the parades, the Council has had to sign an exemption from liability for the brotherhoods to the value of €2,000 in the event of an accident.
